Not my personal best
I'm pretty picky when it comes to lotions. I also work in a hospital and am constantly washing my hands which can majorly dry out my skin. I prefer a lotion that's quick absorbent, non-scented and non-greasy. This salve is pretty moisturizing and longer lasting than your basic moisturizer. The texture is definitely salve-like meaning on the thicker side and there is a slight medicinal scent to it. I think the description is accurate in that it provides a barrier because sometimes when I wash my hands I can feel the residue of the lotion still there. I've used up the entire bottle but do not plan on repurchasing, just not for me.

For the softest hands ever!
I am suffering very, very dry skin on my hands, especially on the ankles. This Hand Salve is the only one - and I have really tried many of them, even the most expensive - that is able to cure my dry skin sustainably. My hands are soft, even hours after using the salve. Not for nothing this product is named SALVE, which is derived from the latin "salvere" that means to feel healthy and well. The product is a real well-being agent for dry hands. And last but not least ... it does not leave a greasy film on the hands. I can use is anytime a day, even when I am working on my laptop without smudging the keyboard. AND I also like the smell of Eucalyptus!

Decent hand salve.
I love Kiehl's products and decided to get some around Christmas as I wash my hands a lot and do not like having particularly dry skin. Sadly, I am not as impressed with this as I thought I would be. As someone who has tried a ton of different brands and products of hand creams - this one was average. I like that the texture is good consistency - it's not too thick or thin and that it's relatively odorless. However, I don't feel like it really does much for the higher price tag. I probably would not purchase again, however, I did not dislike using it. Just is not my favorite Kiehl's product. My sister loves it though and she has extremely dry hands.

Only one that works for me
Even in California, the heat occasionally goes on during the winter (Don't hate me, I lived in NYC for decades) and when it does, my hands dry out. So badly in fact, cracks would form and bleed. I don't even do hard work with my hands during the day. Since this is a thick formula, I recommend applying it heavily before bedtime. Otherwise you'll be leaving grease spots on paper, clothes, and door knobs while waiting for the salve to soak in. But once a day seems to protect my hands and cracks are only a bad memory now. There are other formulations (containing a large percentage of shea butter) that work as well, but they are not easy to find.

Best cream ever
As a nurse I'm constantly washing my hands and not only are they always dry and cracked they are very sensitive and burn if certain lotions/creams are applied. I happened to pass by a Kiehl's while in the mall and decided to go in. I purchased Ultimate Strength Hand Salve and LOVE it, it's seriously the best cream I've ever used. I have not seen my hands not dry in a very long time, I just wish I'd found it sooner and not have waisted money on all other lotions/creams that never worked. I will never use another hand cream!

Just what I was looking for
As a nurse, I wash my hands and use hand sanitizer CONSTANTLY. My hands are always dry and in the winter it's even worse. My mother offered it up while I was visiting her and I didn't think it was going to be any different. It sinks in without a greasy feeling and the results are always noticeable. My hands are no longer cracked but are actually soft for once. Another plus is that it doesn't really have any scent to it so I can use it without worrying that it will bother my patients. I do agree with other reviews that the tube isn't the best packaging but that's something I can deal with when you get real results. I always keep a tube on me.

Leaves hands soft and silky smooth
With the pandemic, I've been washing my hands at least 2-3 times more daily than usual. I have dry skin normally, this extra washing has made it worse. This salve is terrific. It's easy to apply, little goes a long way, and it lasts forever. If you just rinse off your hands with hot water or use hand sanitizer, you dont even have to reapply. It forms a literal glove of moisturizer on hands. You can feel it protecting & moisturizing them. The scent is not all that appealing to me, wish it were available in different scents. That's the only complaint I have. Otherwise its 5 stars for moisturizing dry skin that lasts all day.

I love everything... except the scent.
This product is amazing! It works better than any other hand lotion/lotion I have ever used. It does exactly what it says. Luxurious, yet, it doe not leave your hand with that awful slippery feeling... The only issue I have with the product is the scent. Although not overpowering in the least, it is a little odd. I'm not sure how to describe it. However; the scent is not something that permeates the room. I can't even smell it when my hands are about a foot from my face. The smell should be something more normal, yet just as innocuous.
P.S. It is still amazing and you have a life time client. I just wish there Was a manly way to put hand lotion on... lol.
