Don't let the smooth taste (feel) fool ya ...While we are conditioned for our toners to 'sting' after washing, shaving, etc., it really isn't necessary. The majority of toners out there contain isopropyl alcohol (or slight variants) which DOES sterilize the skin BUT it also dries out the mantle of the epidermis. Not good, at all. Thankfully, there are toners that do NOT contain alcohols and this is one of them ... and one of the BEST in my opinion. It gently takes off what your cleanser may have left behind (after the rinse), prepping your skin for maximum moisturizer absorption / benefits... ALL w/o the drying effects of alcohol normally associated with toners. BIG FAN!!!

Yes, please!I read in a beauty magazine that IF I chose to use a toner (they actually suggested just splashing cold water on the face only!), to make sure that it was alcohol-free. Upon seeing that ingredient listed on the bottle, I threw out the cheap stuff I bought at the big box store and went on the search for something from Kiehl's...a name I equate with awesomeness ever since finding the Midnight Recovery Concentrate (thank you for that!) So, I bought this toner, having combo/oily skin, and absolutely love it! I feel like I'm treating myself every night during my skincare routine. Thanks AGAIN, Kiehl's!

Protects Skin While Still Being Breathable and Light!For a long time, I stayed away from toners because every one that I used either felt hazy on my face or led to breakouts.
The Calendula toner is light, goes on easy and has done a great job of locking in moisture and protecting my skin. It goes on a little watery and dries within 20 seconds. After that, I follow up with a moisturizer and go on with my day. No breakouts, no clogs, nothing heavy on my face. This product has been great and I highly recommend it.
For guys, this is a great product to use after shaving especially... I essentially use it as an aftershave now.

ExcellentI have acne. Not cystic but comedonal which I have found difficult to control. I have tried medicated creams from my doctor and antibiotics, all have which failed to treat it. I now have found a cream from another brand that has significantly improved my skin. I have always been a Kiehl's fan and never considered a toner of much use (others I have use have just dried my skin completely). The assistant used this on my skin when I was in store and wow! It has further cleared my skin and brightened it. It is expensive but it does last a long time. Cannot recommend it enough.

best toner I've used so farI love how this is alcohol-free. My skin is oily and prone to breakouts and so the toners I used to use would have the "sting" effect on my skin, which I thought was good for my breakouts (this was when I was a bit younger). They left my skin kind of blotchy looking and dry. This, on the other hand, actually handled my skin very well. It is gentle, soothing, and leaves my skin feeling very soft after it dries. My skin tone looks a bit more even than before as well.
I can see how people complain that this runs out fast. My suggestion is this: for those that are using cotton squares, you can peel the square in half so that you actually end up having two very thin pieces of cotton squares instead of one thick one.

The Only Toner I'll Ever UseI suffer from moderate acne and have SUPER oily skin and have tried a range of products over the years. When I was finally introduced to Kiehl's and more importantly the Calendula Herbal Extract Toner I became obsessed. It's kind to my skin and calms the redness. I can confidently apply moisturiser (use the Blue Herbal Moisturiser) without thinking my skin is too greasy to do so. Whether I continue to use the Blue Herbal range is something I'll have to think about (may need something containing Benzoyl Peroxide instead) but I'll never stop using this toner.

Works Pretty Well, Just WAY OverpricedI am an ingredient junkie, and while this formulation doesn't have the "safest" ingredients, the ones used are far from being harmful. It's just that the Calendula Extract, Articum Lappa Extract and Allantoin ALL come AFTER very cheap, generic ingredients. Sure, the ones listed above are relatively "premium" but I mean come on. Even the preservative (Methylparaben) is listed before any of those ingredients. I wanted to give it 3 stars because of how overpriced it is, and how it should be priced like their Cucumber Toner, BUT it does perform very well for oily & sensitive skin -- which is very hard to find.
**As a note, here are all the ingredients that come before Calendula (for which the product was named): Water, Propylene Glycol (a little scary as the 2nd most concentrated ingredient), Pentylene Glycol, Methylparaben and Disodium EDTA.

Gentle but doesn't reduce breakoutsI bought this product (the small version) when I read that it was great for small breakouts. I will say that this toner is very gentle for my sensitive skin. But, my breakouts stayed the same and it didn't seem like the toner was doing much of anything. Also, after using the whole bottle my face seems a bit dryer than when I first started using the product (mostly oily, with some dry patches). It might be the change in weather, or maybe that's what the toner is supposed to do. I just want something a little more effective.
